We are purchasing electricity from 100% renewable energy sources. From 2011 to 2017, this avoided CO2 emission of about 304 tons in comparison to the German electricity mix. In 2018, it is expected to avoid further 30.6 tons of CO2 emissions (current certificate).

"Environmental and climate protection can only be successful, if we collectively commit ourselves to an ecological urban development. In doing so, local companies – especially the small and medium-sized enterprises, at which the program is targeted – are very important partners" the Mayoress emphasized. "I'm glad, that we were able to strengthen communication and cooperation and that the participating companies achieved operational benefit through the ECOfit project."
ECOfit is part of the municipal climate protection strategy "MANNHEIM AUF KLIMAKURS". It was initiated by the City of Mannheim and its climate protection agency. The eight ECOfit workshops dealt, among others, with the topics energy saving, waste management, water usage and air pollution. In addition, the participating companies were consulted on-site by sustainability experts. The companies did not only develop specific measures, but also benefitted from exchange of experience and increased legal certainty. The value for business consists of: cost savings, image boost and a contribution to climate protection.
"We were able to allow free participation in the project with a combination of state, regional and municipal funding. It was a benefit for the environment and the business likewise", summarized Agnes Schönfelder, Head of the Climate Protection Unit of the City of Mannheim.
